Male breast reduction (Gynecomastia)
Male Breast Reduction surgery (Gynecomastia Surgery) is carried out to restore the male breast to its normal shape and size. The procedure removes chest fat and glandular tissue from the breasts. In extreme cases plastic surgeon removes also excess skin, resulting in a chest that is flatter, firmer, and better contoured.
Before Male Breast Reduction surgery, the initial consultation with your surgeon is required in order to exclude these causes of gynecomastia that require different treatment than cosmetic (including the very small possibility of breast cancer). If you are deciding on Ginecomastia you must also realize that the bigger the male breast is the larger the postoperative scars can be.
The gynecomastia surgery procedure is done under a general anesthesia or a combination of local anesthesia with sedation and takes about 1-3 hours.
Gynecomastia surgery is a low risk procedure but some complications can arise. Risks include: bleeding, hematoma formation, infection, breast asymmetry, visible scarring. Sometimes there is a need for a second procedure.
